I opened my store May 5th 1997, I had just finished taking a course at Acadia Center for Small Business & Entrepreneurship. It was great, we put together our own business plan. The teachers were awesome, I also met some good contacts. Mostly the course gave me the confidence I needed.
As a kid , I always wanted to run my own business. I grew up on a potato farm, my brother and I set up a little store and we sold pop and chips to the workers. I started out working on a potato harvester at age 10. I come from a long line of Entrepreneur's and know what hard work is . As a business owner I never stop working as I enjoy it !!
Your business really does become a part of who you are. I happened to find the perfect location . 2 Central Ave was up for rent, I took it ! This was a former Scouts Hall and my space is where they played basket ball. Love older wooden floors and big windows I painted it up inside with lots of help from my awesome Husband and set a date to open May 5th 1997. I still remember walking up Central Ave, brand new sandwich board under my arm, setting it up for the first time. Kinda scared but so excited !!!!! Worried maybe that no one would come in that day. My first sale ever was a box of old metal hangers for $5.00, the day was great!!!Lots of people coming in and shopping. People love the store and I love my job, it is so much fun. It is so good to love what you do, and want to be at work. ......22 years later and still going strong. Great to still be in my one and only location . Thanks for supporting your local Retro shop.
